Top 10 Things to Know Before Starting the JUPEB Programme

So you're thinking of enrolling in JUPEB or you've already bought the form—great move! But before you dive in, here are 10 important things you should know to prepare yourself and make the most of the programme.

1. It's an Intensive One-Year Programme

JUPEB is not secondary school part 2. It's fast-paced and demands your focus. You'll cover content that prepares you for 200-level, so be ready to commit.

2. Attendance Matters

Most JUPEB centres (including UNIBEN) take attendance seriously. Missing classes can affect your final result. Try not to joke with it.

3. You'll Be Writing Final Exams at the National Level

JUPEB exams are standardized across Nigeria. Your results will be sent directly to your chosen universities for Direct Entry admission.

4. It's a Direct Entry Path to 200-Level

Once you complete JUPEB and your university of choice accepts you, you'll resume from 200 level—no need to write JAMB again (unless you want to).

5. Choosing the Right Subject Combination is Key

Your subject combo must match the course you want to study in the university. Wrong combination = no admission, even with good grades.

6. You'll Need a Strong O'Level Result

JUPEB doesn't replace WAEC or NECO. You still need at least 5 credits (including English and Maths) in not more than two sittings.

7. You'll Be Graded Like a University Student

Grades range from A to F, and every subject carries a certain number of points. Your total point determines your chances of getting into 200-level.

8. Prepare to Study Regularly

JUPEB isn't for last-minute reading. The workload builds up quickly. Stay consistent with your notes, assignments, and revision.

9. Not All Universities Accept JUPEB

JUPEB is widely accepted but not universal. Make sure your dream school is among the partnering universities. (UNIBEN accepts it, of course.)

10. Support is Available—Don't Be Afraid to Ask
